Dra. Teresa Freire
PhD in Psychology, Teresa Freire, is a professor at the University of Minho, Portugal, in the School of Psychology, Department of Applied Psychology. She received the Teaching Award (2011) and the Interactionwith Society Award (2014) from the School of Psychology. She belongs to the Psychology Research Center (CIPsi), being the Development and Psychopathology Unit Coordinator, leading the Research Group on Positive Development and Optimal Functioning. She is the President of the General Assembly of the Psychological Association of the University of Minho, where she coordinates the Adolescents´ Psychology Consultation supporting adolescents’ risks and challenges in their daily lives. She is member of the Scientific Coordination Team of the Tutoring and Mentoring Programs – UMinho (Skill Up Project) empowering students through the development of transversal skills. She coordinates nationally the Project: To Be(+)plus, one of the Gulbenkian Academies of Knowledge in Portugal. This project integrates three Psychological Group Intervention Programs to promote positive youth development (13-25 years old). Internationally, she belongs to the World Leisure Organization, chairing the Special Interest Group on Leisure and Well-Being, one of her main research lines. She edited the book, Positive Leisure Science, prefaced by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. She is also a member of the European Society for Prevention Research, the European Flow Researchers Network, and the European Network for Positive Psychology. She is the author of several articles in a diversity of scientific journals, books and book chapters, mainly at the international level, with several research collaborative partnerships in Europe and out of Europe.
